Interesting - microscopic thoughts

On his self-produced 10inch Vinyl, saxophonist Tobias Meier has created a gem of 9 miniatures. Taken individually, the 9 microscopic pieces focus on experimental happenings between instrument and microphone, overtone structures and polyphonic overdubs, mixed with microphoned inner worlds of the instruments and supposedly peripheral sounds. Together, the miniatures translate into an audiophile, organic matrix and assemble like a kaleidoscope, of which Frantz Loriot (viola), Silvan Jeger (cello) and Dominique Girod (bass) are also part. The B-side of the album comprises a single 9-minute solo piece in which the saxophonist and the saxophone melt into one interface. The varying column of air and the static fingering due to on-going shifts result in a kind Möbius construct while the “noises” emerging from the flap, the overtones and breath create a second soundscape.

Tobias Meier gathered the miniatures of "Interesting - Nine Microscopic Thoughts" over more than a year. The microphone became an integral part of his approach (as also known of field recordings for example), deconstructing the relationship between the instrument, the microphone and the phonogram. Opting for vinyl gives an additional sensual dimension to the subtle structures of this microscopic harmonics world.

Saxophonist Tobias Meier hat auf seiner selbst produzierten „10 Inch“ ein Kleinod aus 9 Miniaturen geschaffen. Einzeln handeln die 9 mikroskopischen Miniaturen von experimentellen Ereignissen zwischen Instrument und Mikrophon, Obertonarchitekturen und mehrstimmigen Overdubs und vermischen sich mit mikrophonierten Innenwelten von Instrumenten oder vermeintlich peripheren Geräuschen. Zusammen ergeben die Miniaturen eine audiophile, organische Matrix und fallen ineinander wie in einem Kaleidoskop, in der auch Frantz Loriot (Viola), Silvan Jeger (Cello), Dominique Girod (Bass) Teil werden. Die B Seite umfasst ein einziges 9 minütiges Solostück, in dem Saxophonist und Saxophon zu einem Interface verschmelzen und in dem die variierende Luftsäule und ein statischer Fingersatz durch andauernde Verschiebungen eine Art Möbiusband ergeben, während die Klappen-, Oberton- und Atemgeräusche eine zweite Klangebene aufspannen.

Die Miniaturen von „Interesting - Nine Microscopic Thoughts“ hat Tobias Meier während einer Dauer von über einem Jahr gesammelt. Dabei wurde das Mikrophon zu einem integralen Bestandteil (wie man es beispielsweise auch aus der Welt des Fieldrecordings kennt) und dekonstruiert das Verhältnis zwischen Instrument, Mikrophon und Tonträger. Das Vinyl des Tonträgers verleiht den feinstofflichen Gebilden aus der mikroskopischen Welt der Obertöne eine zusätzliche sinnliche Dimension.
